Neighbourhood Action Panels (NAPs)

What is a Neighbourhood Action Panel?

A Neighbourhood Action Panel, often referred to as a NAP, is a regular meeting held within a neighbourhood. The panel consists of people who live or work in the neighbourhood or those who provide a service to the local community.

We are continually seeking your input on the issues which matter to you and these issues are taken to the NAP for them to consider. The NAP will agree community priorities and decide upon a realistic and achievable course of action so that we can deliver results which matter to you. Priorities are set by the community without influence from the police.

You can have your say by attending on of our 'come and meet us' events which include NAPs. You can also contact your local neighbourhood policing team on their dedicated mobile phone, submit a web contact form or stop an officer in the street to tell them what matters to you. What is Neighbourhood watch?

There are several hundred Neighbourhood Watch groups in Essex with more than 5,000 volunteer co-ordinators covering around 40 per cent of the properties in the county. The main aim of Neighbourhood watch is to reduce the level of crime and to encourage a neighbourly spirit which will see people looking after themselves and others in their community.

Neighbourhood Watch aims to make communities feel safer. It also opens the channel of communication between police and neighbours helping crimes to be prevented and detected. Neighbourhood Watch can provide the foundation for building or reviving community spirit.

Neighbourhood watch aims to:

  • Reduce opportunities for crime
  • Make it more difficult for criminals
  • Build a strong community spirit
  • Build better links between police and residents

How will Neighbourhood Watch benefit me?

  • Lower crime
  • Reduce fear of crime
  • Regular contact with your local police officer and PCSO
  • Support for your meetings and possible funding for events you wish to hold
  • Improved quality of life and greater sense of community
  • Discounted home insurance

How Can I get Involved with Neighbourhood Watch?

Community Wardens

Community Wardens work in Golf Green Ward (Jaywick). They are there to help on any environmental or safety issues that you may have. They also call in on housebound or elderly residents to check they are ok. They have the power to enforce littering, cycling, alcohol/tobacco confiscations from underage users or dog fouling issues.

Community Wardens

They are also able to advise on crime prevention. They have a good rapport with the RSPCA and are used to dealing with all sorts of animal problems.

They work closely with the Environmental Health Officer for Brooklands. If you have any of the above issues or wish to report any Fly-Tipping or Graffiti then phone the General Enquiries line on 01255 428090 where Margaret O’Dell will forward any of your concerns.

If you have any ideas for improvements in your area we would be pleased to hear your suggestions. Alternatively contact the wardens direct they will be happy to help or see you at the Enterprise Centre, Lotus Way, Jaywick CO15 2LU.
